Asthma: Watch Out For Symptoms!

Asthma is a dangerous ailment that fifteen million people in the United States have, five million of them children. Most people know that asthma impairs a person’s breathing by causing the airways leading to our lungs to become sensitive and swell up. The inflammation, coupled with various constrictions, make it hard for the person to suck in air to his lungs.

You'll know if a person has asthma if he or she has the symptoms. The tricky part is that asthmatics tend to have different symptoms from each other, and may also have different things that trigger their asthma attacks.

The most common symptoms include shortness of breath, tightening of the chest, coughing, wheezing, and too much mucus. These sound like the symptoms of flu or colds, but the difficulty in breathing for asthma are more severe.

Asthma symptoms come out in full during asthma attacks, which happen when the bronchi or the airways come into contact with allergens or other irritants. They can be so severe that they can cause people to suffocate and die. It's particularly dangerous for children because they don't usually know what to do when they're having asthma attacks.

If you think you have asthma, or if you see someone who shows the signs for asthma, you should get yourself or the person to the doctor. Asthma can't be cured, but there are many ways to treat it to make it manageable for daily life. It may be a hindrance to your lifestyle sometimes, but if you are careful enough, you can be as normal as everyone else. Just keep away from the smokers!
